Lirr Suspends Service As Rate Of Snowfall Becomes Heavier During Nor'easter The Long Island Rail Road will suspend service as the rate of snowfall during the Nor'easter has become heavier. MTA officials announced that the LIRR service will be shut down on Monday, Feb. 1 due to the storm, which is now dropping between one and three inches of snow per hour. According to MTA chairman Patrick Foye said the LIRR will operate its last trains to and from Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Covid-19: Man Asked To Wear Mask Assaults Woman At Long Island Bus Stop, Police Say A man punched a woman at a Long Island bus stop after she asked him to wear a protective mask while riding the bus, police said. Southampton Town Police received an emergency call at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 9 from a woman who was assaulted at the bus stop at the traffic circle on Peconic Avenue. Police said that upon arrival, responding officers found a 46-year-old woman who had a laceration to her head from the assault. Long Island Man Killed In Crash With Transit Bus A Long Island man was killed after his car crossed over a curb of a parking lot and into a street, where it crashed with a bus. It happened on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at about 11:10 a.m. in Babylon, Suffolk County Police said.  John Gordon, 83, of North Babylon, was driving a 2005 Honda Accord in the parking lot at 1 John St. when he drove the vehicle over the curb and into the westbound lanes of John Street.
