Sunrise Highway Stretch Reopens After Crash A busy stretch of the Sunrise Highway (Route 27) has reopened late Thursday morning, Feb. 18. The westbound lanes became closed just after 8:30 a.m., at Exit 40 in North Babylon and exit 50 in Holbrook after a crash, Suffolk County Police said. One Driver Dead, Second Hospitalized In Route 27 Crash Between Box Truck, Tractor-Trailer A tractor-trailer and box truck collided on Sunrise Highway, leaving one driver dead and the second hospitalized on Long Island. New York State Police troopers responded at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, where there was a reported crash on Sunrise Highway (Route 27) near the exit 62 eastbound exit in Southampton. Police said that the driver of the box truck and the driver of the tractor-trailer were both injured and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center.  The passenger of the box truck succumbed to injuries at the scene. Man Hit By Car While Walking Across William Floyd Parkway, Police Say A man was seriously injured after being hit by a car while he was walking across the William Floyd Parkway. It happened around 10:50 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 in Shirley, Suffolk County Police said. Daniel Quigley, 33, of Shirley, was walking westbound across the parkway on the Route 27 overpass when he was struck a southbound 2009 Toyota Camry. Quigley was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Camry, Andre Seura, 45, of Shirley, was not injured. The Camry was impounded for a safety check.

The closure occurred eastbound in Suffolk County at Exit 54 and was reported just before 5 p.m. Farther east, another stretch of Route 27 reopened between Stephen Hands Path and Baiting Hollow Road in Southampton after a closure due to a downed tree and wires.
