'Heinous Act': Dad's Friend Breaks Into Long Island Home, Sexually Abuses 4-Year-Old, Cops Say
A man is accused of breaking into a Long Island home and sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl.
Darwin Barbacastillo, age 27, of Brentwood, was arraigned on sexual assault and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Nov. 15, stemming from an alleged break-in at a home in Bay Shore.
Prosecutors said Barbacastillo entered the victim’s home through a back door at around 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, while the family was still sleeping.

Bellport resident Miguel Ruiz, age 29, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary Thursday, Aug. 11, in Suffolk County court.

A Long Island man has been convicted in the brutal machete killing of a 73-year-old grandmother during a home invasion.
On Sept. 13, 2017, Benjamin Lopez, age 27, of Levittown, and a co-defendant, Deangelo Gill, broke into a home on Newbridge Road in Levittown seeking revenge on the resident, Mark Depperman, and planning to steal his marijuana and money, according to the charges by Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Man Wanted For Stealing Guns, Safe During Long Island Home Burglary
Police are asking for the public’s help after a Long Island family’s home was burglarized.
Suffolk County Police said the break-in happened Friday, April 22, at the Brookhaven residence, located on Hargrove Drive in Stony Brook.
Sometime between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., the suspect got into the house by removing a window screen, police said.
Once inside he stole four long guns, a safe, jewelry, and various ID documents, police said.

One Killed, One Injured In Long Island Home Invasion, Police Say
One person was killed and another injured during a home invasion on Long Island.
The incident took place around 3:45 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, in Suffolk County at a Coram home.
According to the Suffolk County Police, multiple people broke into the home at 5 Everglades Lane and shot Eric Westby, a resident of the home, and beat a woman with a pistol.
Westby, 46, was transported to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where he was pronounced dead.
