Woman Killed, Three Seriously Injured In Long Island Boat Crash
A woman was killed and three others seriously injured when a boat crashed on Long Island.
It happened Sunday night, Nov. 10 just after 9 p.m. in Mattituck in the waters of Great Peconic Bay off Old Salt Road.
The 39-foot Cobalt was leaving the bay and entering a creek when it hit a barrier, resulting in the death of Kelley Blanchard, 27, of Riverhead, police said.
The boat's operator, Frank DiStefano, 48, of East Northport, Megan Blanchard, 29, of New Suffolk, and Nick Soulas, 41, of Jamesport, were all seriously injured.
Boater Injured By Propeller After Leaving Boat In Gear, Police Say
A 57-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by the propeller of an 18-foot boat that he had rented for the day in Great Peconic Bay off Laurel.
The incident took place around 2:40 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20, when the man, identified as Stefan Palm, a visitor from Germany, entered the water to take a turn on a water tube and failed to realize that the boat had been left in gear, said the Southhold Police Department.
The action caused the boat to keep moving and the propeller hit Palm in the leg, causing extensive damage to his lower extremities, police said.
