More Than 500 Stung By Jellyfish On Long Island Beaches More than 500 people were stung by jellyfish over the holiday weekend when thousands of the sea animals athered along the shore break at Long Island beaches. The majority of those stung were in Suffolk County at Robert Moses Beach Park in Babylon where thousands were spotted along the shoreline on Sunday, Sept. 4, according to George Gorman, of New York State Parks Department. Zach’s Bay At Jones Beach Closed To Swimmers Due To High Bacteria Counts, Officials Say Zach's Bay at Jones Beach State Park is closed to swimmers due to high bacteria counts, according to park officials. The measure was announced on Wednesday, July 23. "This prohibition is a precautionary step to assure the protection of the health and safety of our swimmers," said George Gorman, regional director for the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
