New Round Of Severe Storms Sweeping Through Region For the third straight day, a line of severe thunderstorms is moving through the region from west to east. Scattered storm activity is expected Thursday afternoon, July 8, and into the evening. At 12:45 p.m., storms with heavy rain have arrived in New York, north of I-84 in Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess counties. Storm activity could become more widespread later. Tornado Watch Now In Effect For Suffolk County A Tornado Watch has just been issued for nearly the entire region. It's in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, the National Weather Service said. It was issued just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. It covers Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties in the Hudson Valley, Suffolk County on Long Island and Fairfield County in Connecticut. The watch comes as a new round of severe storms is expected to sweep through the area.
