An 18-year-old assaulted and injured a security officer after attempting to rob a Long Island Walmart, police said.

It happened around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Valley Stream, Nassau County Police said.

According to detectives, Maximo Burdier, 18, of South Ozone Park in Queens, entered Walmart located at 77 Green Acres Road and attempted to exit the store without paying for merchandise.

Burdier was approached by loss prevention officers and a struggle ensued before Burdier was subdued, police said.

The male victim, 38, suffered lacerations to his left knee, left hand and face, police said. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Burdier was charged with first- and second-degree robbery and second-degree assault. He is due to be arraigned on Sunday, Oct. 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.
