The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1 in Hempstead.
That's when Hempstead Police Departments officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at Polk Avenue, according to Nassau County Police.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two women with apparent gunshot wounds. They were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
On Tuesday, April 4, police announced that Kimberly Midgette, age 44, who was hospitalized in critical condition, has succumbed to her injuries.
The second victim, who is age 31, was released from the hospital.
