Steve Stafstrom, D-Bridgeport, as its legislative champion. For four years Stafstrom served as vice chairman of the board of managers at the Alpha Community Services YMCA, a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, one of the state’s largest providers of supportive housing. Judge: Ganim Won't Receive Public Funds For Run For Governor BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A U.S. District Court judge on Wednesday denied Mayor Joe Ganim’s bid for public financing for his planned run for governor, according to the Connecticut Post. Earlier this year, the mayor filed a federal lawsuit against the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) for ruling he is disqualified from receiving a public campaign grant for his possible gubernatorial run because he was a convicted felon. Eric Chambers, 33, of Bridgeport was apprehended by members of the Fugitive Task Force as the result of a warrant issued for his arrest, police said He was charged with first-degree robbery and was held on $250,000 bond, police said.  He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 6. Fairfield Police: Bridgeport Man Caught On Tape Stealing Aleve FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Bridgeport man who stole more than $84 in pain relievers from a Villa Avenue grocery store was arrested Saturday, police said. Around 10 p.m., Stop & Shop loss prevention staffers saw Santoni Carl Bass, 54, of Calvin Avenue, on surveillance tape attempting to steal 16 bottles of Aleve, police said. Officers met Bass, who has an extensive criminal history, as he walked out the front door. He was charged with sixth-degree larceny and was released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 5.

Cash, Diaper Bag, Paraguay Passport Stolen From Cars In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Four cars were rummaged through over the holiday weekend with thieves making off with cash, a diaper bag and a passport from Paraguay, police said. On Sunday, two Campfield Drive owners reported their cars had been entered. One owner reported $5 to $10 taken from an unlocked car parked in the street and the other said a $30 diaper bag and $47 in cash were taken. Several things were taken from an unlocked car on nearby Bloomfield Drive, including a Paraguay passport and credit, debit and gift cards. Police: Housesitter Finds Door Kicked In At Brother's Fairfield Home FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A man housesitting at his brother’s Pemburn Drive home called police Saturday afternoon when he found the side door kicked in and jewelry on the kitchen floor. Officers who arrived at the home around 2 p.m. found it had been rummaged through, police said. A neighborhood canvass did not turn up any witnesses and the case is under investigation.
