Andrzej Szysko was heading east in a Jeep Wrangler that struck the passenger's side of a Ford pickup truck, heading south on Route 517 in Allamuchy around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, New Jersey State Police said.

The impact sent the Ford into 33-year-old Lauren Gerhold's vehicle, heading north in a Jeep SUV, and she was pronounced dead, police said. Gerhold was survived by her husband, Casey, and their sons, ages 1 and 4, according to a GoFundMe launched by Taylor Gaccione.

Szysko was also charged with vehicular homicide, death by auto, three counts of assault by auto, two counts of causing injury while driving with a suspended license and three counts of aggravated assault. He is currently hospitalized and awaiting transport to Warren County Jail, NJSP said.

Szysko appears to have been arrested for DWI and various traffic offenses in 2019, as reported by the New Jersey Herald. In 2022, Szyszko was driving on a suspended license from a prior DWI when police found him with cocaine, they said.
