The crash occurred at 6:48 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17 on the outer roadway southbound at milepost 85.6 in Edison, according to New Jersey State Police. Based on preliminary information, a Toyota Tacoma towing a U-Haul trailer lost control and struck the concrete divider coming to a rest on top of the barrier, State Police said. The driver reported a minor injury but refused medical attention, police said.

The northbound side of the roadway was closed in Deptford from mile marker 59.2 to the Route 42 interchange following the 9 a.m. crash. The roadway had reopened as of 1:45 p.m., but crews were still on scene for cleanup. HazMat crews, the New Jersey State Police, NJDOT, and multiple fire departments were on scene.  Environmental services were notified and were monitoring the incident. No injuries were reported.
