Monmouth University pollsters have tried to answer a question that has been hard to solve for many in the Garden State: Where is Central Jersey exactly? The Monmouth University Polling Institute released a survey on Tuesday, Apr. 16 that asked New Jerseyans what region they live in and if they believe their region gets a fair share of state resources. A longtime South Jersey racetrack announcer known for his playful, entertaining flair died after a 13-year battle with brain cancer, officials said. Larry Lederman died at 67 years old on Tuesday, Mar. 5, the U.S. Trotting Association (USTA) announced in a news release. The East Windsor resident was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2011. A fatal crash that happened just after a South Jersey officer tried stopping the vehicle is being investigated by state authorities, they said. The on-duty Monroe Township (Gloucester County) police officer was trying to stop the car on County Road 723 just before 4 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, the New Jersey State Attorney General's Office said. Widespread power outages were fueled by high winds and flooding, authorities said. As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, Monmouth County was the hardest hit with more than 15,500 homes and businesses without power, according to Jersey Central Power and Light. Ocean County reported 2,420 without power; Middlesex County experienced 1,109 outages; Mercer County had 955 outages and Burlington County had 90. There also were scattered outages in Camden and Gloucester counties, PSE&G reported, saying there were 427 outages across South Jersey.
