Solar Eclipse Means Early Dismissal For Shore Regional High School District
A solar eclipse on Monday, April 8 is closing schools across New Jersey. Last month, Livingston Public Schools in Essex County announced an early dismissal in anticipation of children looking at the sun. Since then, others have announced they too will close early. Pennsauken officials announced a half-day as the eclipse is expected to coincide with dismissal, posing a safety concern. Students in the Shore Regional High School District will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m., ahead of the eclipse, according to a letter form the superintendent. 52 Arrested In 'Elaborate' Cockfighting Ring In South Jersey: Police
More than 50 people were arrested after police broke up a large cockfighting ring in Atlantic County, authorities said. Galloway Township police executed a search warrant at a home on the 300 block of South Bremen Avenue on Saturday, Mar. 9, the department said in a news release. When officers arrived, a large group of people were there and many tried to run away before they were detained. Investigators found an "elaborate cockfighting operation" that included a fighting ring, seating for spectators, and several cockfighting kits. Bradley Niesen's girlfriend told authorities that they both did LSD with Tyler Roderick on the 4600 block of High Street in Pennsauken Saturday night, Dec. 23, before Roderick began acting "acting out" and screaming, according to the affidavit for probable cause. A 58-year-old Burlington County man was struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train in Camden County, authorities said. Thomas E. Schroder, of Maple Shade, died in the crash that occurred at about 8:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13 south of Cove Road in Pennsauken, a NJ Transit spokesman said. A 32-year-old South Jersey woman was killed in an early morning crash on I-195, state police confirmed. Barbara J. Johnson was driving westbound in a Hyundai Sonata when she ran off the right side of the highway and hit several trees near milepost 5.6 in Robbinsville around 5 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, NJSP Trooper Charles Marchan told DailyVoice.com.
