A 48-year-old tractor trailer driver from Connecticut is facing weapons offenses after his loaded handgun began discharging when his vehicle went up in flames Friday, Dec. 30 on Route 78, authorities said. The tractor trailer overturned in westbound lanes near milepost 27.1 in Bedminster around 3:50 p.m., and the vehicle became fully engulfed, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez said. Driver Airlifted When Tractor Trailer Overturns On Route 78
The driver of a tractor trailer was airlifted to the hospital after he lost control of his tractor trailer overturned on Route 78 earlier this week. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle on the westbound side near milepost 28.5 in Bedminster around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Philip Curry said. Despite suffering only minor injuries, the driver was flown to Morristown Medical Center, Curry said. The right and center lanes of the highway were closed for five hours. The crash remains under investigation.

One person died and another airlifted in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Route 78 in Hunterdon County Thursday, May 26, authorities said.
