Chicken Waste Spill Causes HazMat Situation Along South Jersey Highway A trailer hauling chicken waste products crashed, spilling its contents all over Route 55 and causing a HazMat situation in Gloucester County on Monday, Feb. 27. The northbound side of the roadway was closed in Deptford from mile marker 59.2 to the Route 42 interchange following the 9 a.m. crash. The roadway had reopened as of 1:45 p.m., but crews were still on scene for cleanup. HazMat crews, the New Jersey State Police, NJDOT, and multiple fire departments were on scene.  Environmental services were notified and were monitoring the incident. No injuries were reported.

State Police ID Motorist, 43, Killed When SUV Flips In South Jersey Authorities identified the motorist killed when her SUV overturned in South Jersey. Danielle Lewis, 43, of Vineland died in the crash at 3:02 p;m. on Tuesday, March 8, a New Jersey Strate Police spokesman said. A Ford Explorer driven by Lewis drove off Route 55 southbound to the left and overturned in the grass center median in Franklin Township, according to Trooper Charles Marchan. An investigation was ongoing.

State Police ID Driver, 21, Trapped Under Truck, Killed In South Jersey Crash A 21-year-old motorist died after getting trapped under a box truck in South Jersey, authorities said. The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. near mile-marker 53.8 on Route 55 northbound in Mantua Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey State Police said. The driver reportedly was pinned, there was fire and a heavy wrecker was called, reports said. She was identified as Gabrielle Martin of Glassboro, according to NJSP Trooper Brandi Slota.

Camden's Jesus Diaz, 5, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Route 55 incident in Vineland on July 7, around 11:30 p.m., authorities said. Then, on July 11, Carlos Diaz, 6, of Camden, passed away, police said. 7 Dead Puppies Dropped On Side Of South Jersey Highway Authorities in South Jersey are trying to figure out who dumped seven dead puppies on the side of a Route 55 entrance ramp. A driver found the multi-colored dogs around 9:45 Wednesday morning on the southbound entrance ramp off Sherman Avenue in Vineland, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office said.
