Motorcyclist Killed Route 1 South Brunswick
Two people were killed in separate crashes in South Brunswick including a motorist from South River and a motorcyclist from Pennsylvania, authorities said. At 5:56 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, officers were alerted to a single-car crash on Route 535. The preliminary investigation shows a Nissan Maxima, operated by a 65-year-old man from South River, left the roadway and struck a utility pole. An 82-year-old driver was killed in a wrong-way. crash on Route 1 in Woodbridge, authorities said. Richard Becker, of East Brunswick, was driving south in the northbound lanes near Ford Avenue when he struck another car at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, Woodbridge police said. Becker died later that day at an area hospital. A front-seat passenger in Becker’s car suffered minor injuries, police said. A popular diner in Edison has been closed by a kitchen fire, authorities said. The fire at the Menlo Park Diner, 1475 Route 1, broke out on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 9:58 p.m., according to Edison Fire Chief Andrew Toth. "It was more smoke than anything," said Toth who noted there were no injuries. The restaurant had closed for the day at 3 p.m., the chief said. The fire was extinguished in 15 to 20 minutes, he said.
