New Forecast: Increased Snowfall Totals Expected, Arctic Temps To Follow Northeast Storm
Newly-released forecast maps show parts of the region could see up to six inches of snow in the end-of-week storm. Intermittent snow is expected to begin between 4 and 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, with the heaviest amounts falling in the afternoon, the National Weather Service said. New Law Requires NJ Drivers To Move Over For Disabled Vehicles
Gov. Phil Murphy has expanded New Jersey's "move over" law to protect drivers of broken-down vehicles on the side of Garden State roads. The new requirement says drivers must safely move into another lane when approaching a disabled vehicle using flashing hazard lights, road flares, or reflective triangles. Gov. Murphy signed the bill into law on Tuesday, Jan. 16. If oncoming drivers can't safely move into another lane, they must slow down below the speed limit and be prepared to stop. The estate of a 24-year-old man who was killed in a crash on the Garden State Parkway has reportedly settled a lawsuit against his former employer for $2.15 million. Brandon Lawson, of Manchester Township, was driving a dump truck owned by Farmingdale-based Galderese Trucking when its brakes failed on the southbound Parkway in Egg Harbor Township in the middle of the afternoon on Jan. 6, 2021, authorities said. Driver Hospitalized After Striking Pole On Rt. 22 In Somerset County
A Route 22 driver was hospitalized after striking a pole off the highway during the evening on Sunday, July 9, responders said. The driver slammed into a pole on the eastbound side just after 8:10 p.m., the Finderne Fire Department said. We haven't even finished the busy holiday season, yet 2021 already is the deadliest year for vehicle crashes in recent years, authorities said. UPDATE: New Jersey State Police counted 652 crashes and 682 deaths so far in 2021 as of Monday Dec. 27 at 10 a.m., as reported here. That compares to 549 vehicle crashes resulting in 587 deaths in all of 2020, Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill said.
