A New Jersey widow is taking legal action to obtain additional details from a New Jersey police department in the crash that killed her 32-year-old husband last fall. Matthew H. A judge has ordered a longtime tax preparer to stop doing anyone's taxes after discrepancies were identified in those returns, authorities said. South Brunswick Gets $500K Federal Grant For New Police Officers
South Brunswick has received $500,000 from the federal government to hire new police officers, according to Police Chief Raymond Hayducka. Hayducka announced the funding through a U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant. The grant was for four new officers. The federal award will support up to 75 percent of the new officers’ salary and fringe benefits for three years, the chief said. Thousands of New Jersey residents were without power as of Tuesday evening, Jan. 9, as the storm intensified. A State of Emergency ordered by Gov. Phil Murphy went into effect at 5 p.m., with state and local officials urging residents to stay off the roads. Couple In Their 90s Killed In Central Jersey Crash
A couple was killed in a weekend crash in Middlesex County, NJ Advance Media reports. Edward Mitnowski, 96, of Monroe, was driving east on Station Way at about 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 when he veered into the westbound lane and struck a car, the outlet said, quoting Cranbury police. Mitnowski's SUV partially overturned, and he was pronounced dead while is wife, Rita, 92, died during transport to the hospital, police said. A 56-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Central Jersey, authorities said. The man was driving a 2001 Ford Escape west on Prospect Plains Road in Monroe at 2:11 am. NJ Transit officials have released the name of the man killed by a train. Authorities have identified the man struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train on Monday as 34-year-old from Middlesex County. Eric Zankel, 34, of Monroe was struck by a Northeast Corridor train at about 6:20 p.m. in New Brunswick station, according to JIm Smith, a NJ Transit spokesman.
