Bronx Men Charged With Stealing $34K Worth of Catalytic Converters In Central Jersey: Police Two men from the Bronx have been charged with stealing dozens of catalytic converters from cars in Central Jersey, authorities said. Omar Fernandez, 31, and Gabriel M. Burgos, 31, were each charged with 20 counts of Theft, 19 counts of Criminal Mischief, 19 counts of Conspiracy to Commit Theft and 19 counts of Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Mischief, according to Middlesex Borough Police Chief Matthew P. Police ID Bicyclist, 44, Struck, Killed In Central Jersey Crash Police have identified a 44-year-old bicyclist from Union County killed in a weekend crash in Middlesex Borough, authorities said. Darwin O. Mestanza Rivera, of Scotch Plains, died in the crash at 6:57 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, Middlesex Borough Police Chief Matthew P. Geist said. Mestanza Rivera was struck from behind by a Jeep Patrol as he rode west on South Avenue near the corner of Howard Street, Geist said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. Hong Kong Scammer Defrauds Middlesex Business Out Of $12.8K Via Text: Police A Central Jersey business owner lost $12,800 in an international scam, authorities said. The unidentified proprietor on Union Avenue in Middlesex Borough reported the theft on July 11, police said. The business told Middlesex police they received a text message from an individual claiming to be from a government agency, "threatening to suspend their business license." The business owner was convinced to wire $12,800 to Hong Kong in order to supposedly rectify the issue, police said. After doing so, they realized it was a scam, police said. No arrests had been made.

Maurice R. Sanders, of Bridgewater, was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft and two counts of criminal mischief, Middlesex Borough police said.
