Tactical Units Resolve Standoff With Barricaded Burglary Suspect

A South River burglary suspect was taken into custody by a tactical team Wednesday afternoon after he barricaded himself in a home for four hours, authorities said.

Tyler Underwood, 22, was arrested after the Middlesex Special Operations Response Team (SORT) forced their way in around 1 p.m., resolving a "potentially dangerous situation," Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and South River Police Chief Mark Tinitigan said in a statement.

Underwood was wanted in connection with a local convenience store burglary, they said.

No additional details were released.
