Five teens were accused of stealing a luxury SUV in North Jersey and leading police in Ocean County on a chase, authorities said. Stafford Township police received a report of a stolen vehicle traveling near Route 72 and the Garden State Parkway at around 9:57 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 29. The black 2019 Mercedes GLC was reported stolen from Nutley and was liked to a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in Newark earlier that day. Trio Accused Of 'Distract And Grab' Thefts In Tri-State Area Shopping Centers
Three people were accused of taking part in a "distract and grab" ring across the tri-state area, including outside of two stores on the Jersey Shore, authorities said. The three were arrested in connection with the incidents in July and August 2023, Stafford Township police announced in a Saturday, Mar. 2 news release. The department and nearby law enforcement agencies had received several reports of "distract and grab" thefts and credit card fraud. Propane Tank Caused Home Explosion That Killed 45-Year-Old Jersey Shore Man: Prosecutor
A propane tank is to blame for the home explosion that killed a 45-year-old Jersey Shore man on Tuesday, Oct. 31, authorities said. Kevin Thomas, 45, was found on his front lawn of 253 Neptune Dr., with serious burns, and airlifted to Temple Burn Center in Philadelphia after the explosion that turned into a fire ravaged his house, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. A local police officer was injured on his way to assist New Jersey State Police at the scene of a crash that killed a 19-year-old woman on the Garden State Parkway, authorities said. A 47-year-old Ocean County man took a new car on a test drive and didn't return it, authorities said. The 2023 GMC Sierra was later discovered near the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City, according to Stafford Township police. A 25-year-old Barnegat man will spend seven years behind bars for a crash that killed his 24-year-old passenger in March 2020, in which speed and alcohol were both factors, authorities said Thursday. Jeydon Lowe pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and DWI on Jan. 17, and was sentenced before Superior Court Judge Linda G. Baxter, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. An 11-year-old child was seriously hurt on Sunday night when his sled crashed in Ocean County, authorities said.
