A missing endangered person alert has been canceled for a South Central Pennsylvania man who was last seen in Maryland, police announced Wednesday night, Oct. 9. Harry Joseph Runkle was just 10 days shy of his 77th birthday when he went missing, according to the York County Regional Police. Runkle is from the 4900 block of N. Sherman Street in Mount Wolf, East Manchester Township, police explained. He had last been seen at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The manhunt for a missing 69-year-old woman had a happy ending this week after rescuers found her in the woods less than a mile from her home. Aletha Gee Watson spent eight days in those woods and survived sweltering heat and extreme thunderstorms. Authorities are investigating whether police properly handled a situation after a Virginia man died from his injuries sustained during an arrest last month.
