Two men who attempted to steal a car from a plainclothes Springfield police detective left empty-handed, but did end up getting a free lift to jail.
Dannie Abrew, 20, and Devin Abrew, 19, both of Springfield, face multiple felonies following the incident on Friday, March 29, Springfield police say.
A plainclothes detective was sitting in his car in the area on Reed Street around 8:15 p.m. when he heard a metallic tap on his driver's side window. He turned to see Danne Abrew pointing a gun at his head while Devin circled the unmarked police car, authorities said.

The body of a Quincy man was found in a Washington, DC, alley last week, and police are searching for answers, reports said.
Alan Chi Chen, 41, was found early Thursday morning, Nov. 30, in the 100 block of W St., Fox 5 DC reported.
The report said Chen's body was dumped out of a Porsche just after 11:15 p.m. the night before. The scene was captured on a nearby surveillance video.

Braintree High Schooler, 16, Among Duo Killed In Weekend Braintree Shooting
Authorities are investigating after two young men who shot and killed on the South Shore this weekend.
Jahzier Porter, age 16, and Jayden Santos-Andrade, age 19, died in the shooting that took place on Albert Road in Braintree on late Saturday night, June 24, the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office reports.
Porter was a student at Braintree High School while Santos-Andrade, of Dorchester, would have turned 20 next month, the office added.

A trio of fugitives wanted for "the ultimate crime" have been added to the Massachusetts State Police most wanted list, officials say.
Wanted for three fatal shootings collectively, police are seeking three Eastern Massachusetts men, Luis Soto, Jerome Fordham, and David Lynch, "so that we may speak for their victims," according to Massachusetts State Police.
Soto, 33, is wanted for shooting two men at a Dollar Tree store on North Montello Street in Brockton. Soto fired 16 shots inside the store on January 31, 2023, hitting two men and killing one of them.
