Ex-State Senator Charged With 28 Counts Of Fraud: Feds A former Republican state senator who represented Worcester and Middlesex counties was charged with illegally taking thousands in COVID relief money and concealing cash from the IRS, federal authorities said.  Dean Tran, 48, of Fitchburg, was indicted on 25 counts of wire fraud and three charges of filing false tax reports on Friday, Nov. 17, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. Heating Oil Co. Settles Claim That It Sold Inferior, System-Damaging Fuel A local heating oil company has agreed to pay $450,000 to settle allegations that it was selling below-quality fuel that caused problems in heating systems. On Wednesday, March 3, Worcester-based Peterson Oil resolved claims it violated the False Claims Act as part of a state contract, according to This Week In Worcester. The claims were pressed by State Attorney General Maura Healey’s office. The resolution requires Peterson to pay $450,000 and improve its record-keeping.
