Kenneth Santana-Rodriguez was charged for fatally shooting Trung Tran at the Holyoke Mall in Holyoke on Saturday, Jan. 28, Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni reports

Holyoke Police responded to reports of an active shooter at the Holyoke Mall, located at 50 Holyoke Street in Holyoke, just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

Calls revealed that the shooting happened at the Touch of Beauty Hair & Nail Salon within the mall, Gulluni said. Police entered the salon and found Tran suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died at the scene.

Officers also arrested Santana-Rodriguez and later charged him with murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Gulluni said.

Prosecutors allege that Tran was attending to Santana-Rodriguez and his group when another individual, who was known to the suspected shooter, walked into the salon.

An argument broke out between the two and led to Tran getting shot. Gulluni previously labelled Tran as an "innocent bystander." Videos posted to social media capture the moment shoppers realize that a shooting had just occurred.

Santana-Rodriguez is being held without bail after he was arraigned in Holyoke District Court on Monday, Gulluni said. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27.
