Holyoke Community Rallies To Save Greek Place As Owners Face Eviction After 40 Years
The Greek Place, which has been a staple at the Holyoke Mall for over 40 years, is closing its doors on Thursday, Nov. 30, after receiving an eviction notice from the mall’s owners.
“When I read it, I couldn’t believe it,” owner Maria Muche told MassLive, in shock. “This is not real. And I put it in the seat next to me. Two days later, I went back in my car, saw the letter, and read it. It started sinking in.”
Muche haș run the business since Dec. 13, 1979, according to The Greek Place’s Facebook page. But Pyramid Management Group had other goals to expand the mall.

Covid-19 Closes Another Holyoke Business, Temporarily
Two Holyoke businesses were forced to temporarily close due to staff having COVID-19, according to the city’s Board of Health.
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Board of Health ordered Nicks’ Nest, a popular hotdog restaurant, to close following a report that an employee had tested positive for COVID-19. The last day the employee worked at Nick’s was on Monday, Aug. 10, owners said.
The earliest Nick’s Nest could reopen is Wednesday, Aug. 19, at noon.

Springfield Teen Turns Himself In, To Face Holyoke Murder Charge
A suspect in the fatal shooting in Holyoke on Wednesday, July 29, has been arrested.
On Thursday, July 30, Skyzen Encarnacion, 19, of Springfield turned himself in at the Springfield Police Station in connection with the killing, police said.
Encarnacion is being charged with murder.
The victim is Carlos Ruemmele, 23, of Springfield, according to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.
