A 49-year-old home healthcare worker that failed to check in on his patient, who was found injured after jumping out of a Frederick County apartment building will spend time behind bars, the state's attorney's office announced. Emmanuel Olaeken Owoyeye was ordered by a judge to spend 12 months in the Frederick County Adult Detention Center with another nine years suspended for neglecting a vulnerable adult. A Germantown woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for her role in a nursing home theft scheme, officials announced on Thursday, March 2. Maritza Ramirez, 57, was sentenced in Montgomery County after she pleaded guilty to stealing and pawning off items from residents at Marian Assisted Living on Georgia Avenue, according to the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office. 100+ Displaced In Bowie Nursing Home Fire
More than 100 residents were displaced after an alleged explosion at a nursing home in Bowie, authorities say. Initial reports of an explosion at the facility on the 15000 block of Health Center Drive came in at 3:42 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, according to the Prince George's Fire Department. All 112 residents of the facility were transferred to neighboring facilities with the assistance of several area partners. No injuries have been reported.
