Witnesses say that James Edward Hardy, 52, was walking around in circles in the eastbound lanes of the 800 block of Reese Road before getting on all fours and crawling around, at about 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, according to Anne Arundel County police.

Hardy was first struck by a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport before being hit by a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, and finally a 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup.

Witnesses stated that Hardy did not respond to bystanders when he was asked what he was doing, and that he was wearing dark and non-reflective clothing.

Hardy was pronounced dead on the scene by authorities.
