Malloy Signs Law Supporting Education Savings For Families Of Disabled FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The state of Connecticut lived up to its reputation as a leader among supporting its disabled citizens by signing into law this session legislation that allows for college education savings and support. Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed H.B. 6738 into law on June 19 after the bill unanimously passed both General Assembly chambers. Staples Student Wins Westport League Of Women Voters Grant Award WESTPORT, Conn. -- The League of Women Voters of Westport has named Jacqueline Chappo as its 2015 Staples High School Tuition Grant winner. The organization presented the senior with $2,000 at its annual meeting June 3 at the Norwalk Inn, 99 East Ave. A two-time president of the Young Republicans Club, Chappo’s pursuits include serving as co-captain of the Staples' ski team, and as a member of the school’s track team. Putnam County To Hold Free Rabies Clinic In Cold Spring COLD SPRING, N.Y. -- The Putnam County Department of Health will offer a free rabies vaccination clinic in Cold Springs for the dogs, cats and ferrets of Putnam County. The clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on July 25 at the Hubbard Lodge, 2880 Route 9, Cold Spring, N.Y. The county asks owners to bring photo proof of residency, as well as proof of prior rabies vaccination. Tags are not acceptable. Mahopac Fire Department Launches Summer Carnival With Dress Parade MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- The Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department kicked off its annual summer carnival on Thursday with a dress parade. Fire departments from throughout the Hudson Valley were on hand to celebrate the opening of the summer carnival that will run July 9-11 and July 16-18 at the Mahopac Fire Department, 741 Route 6, Mahopac.
