Young Runners Set Pace in Weston 5K

Young runners set the pace Saturday in Weston's Memorial Day 5K as the top four men's finishers were all under the age of 24. Easton's Meredith Anand won the women's division and finished 10th overall.

Newtown's Zack Schwartz, 22, finished first in 15:28, a blistering 4:59 per mile pace. Newtown's Kevin Hoy, 20, took second in 16:14, followed by James Bloom, 19, of Weston, in 16:23. Stamford's Geoffrey Williams, 24, finished fourth in 16:30. Stamford'a Anatolie Vartosu, the defending champion, finished fifth in 17:00.

Anand won for the women in 18:09, trailed by Wilton's Camille Basurto in 19:33 and Heather Bourgault of Danbury in 20:36. Kiersten Daly, 13, of Weston was fourth in 20:43.

A total of 635 runners finished the race, which supports the Weston High School PTO. Complete results are available online at superracesystems.com
