Semifinals Set in Conference Baseball Playoffs

High school baseball will be played under the lights on Thursday night. The final four are set as the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Association advances to the semifinals at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport.

No. 2 Danbury vs. No. 6 Norwalk, 5 p.m.

After an up-and-down season, Norwalk High School finally seems to have put the pieces together as it defeated cross-city rival Brien McMahon, 5-3. Mike Parlanti snapped a tie in the top of the sixth to give the sixth-ranked Bears the lead for good, defeating the third-seeded Senators for the second time in 10 days. They take on second-seeded Danbury in the semis. The Hatters defeated Fairfield Warde on Tuesday, 3-2. Norwalk lost to Danbury, 2-0, back on April 14.

No. 1 St. Joseph vs. No. 4 Staples, 7:30 p.m.

This is the matchup most Fairfield County baseball fans were hoping to see, with St. Joe's rock-solid pitching facing off against Staples' explosive offense. The two teams met two weeks ago and Staples handed the Cadets one of their two losses on the season, 5-4. Staples shut down New Canaan in the quarterfinals, 3-0, exorcising the demons of last season's early FCIAC exit. St. Joe's erased a 3-0 deficit, scoring seven unanswered runs to eliminate Greenwich.
