Norwalk River Rowing Crews Win 6 Golds

NORWALK, Conn. — Norwalk River Rowing Association crews won six gold medals at the Long Island Junior Championships.

Alexandra Stonehill and Caroline Demko put on a great display in the Women's 2-, beating Saugatuck by 16.67 seconds. Stonehill and Demko had an unintended prerace swim when an equipment problem caused a boat flip.

The men's Lightweight 2x also won a gold medal with Chad Ballard and James Koenigsberg.

The men's lightweight 8+ won gold by beating Saugatuck by 8.15 seconds. The lineup included David Sullivan, Alex Nicoll, Jon Massari, Matt Koenigsburg, Hugh Woodworth, Joe Blake, Kyle Mikesh, Stefan Petreski and coxswain Matt Stout.

The men's lightweight 4+ crew of David Sullivan, Matt Koenigsburg, Kyle Mikesh, Stefan Petreski and cox Matt Stout defeated Manhasset by five seconds to take yet another gold.

Maddox Hussey followed up his Novice Gold from last week's Cooper Cup with another gold, this time in the Men's Junior Varsity 1x.

Chad Ballard and James Koenigsberg added a gold in the Men's Junior Varsity 2x.

The boys added a bronze in the Men's Lightweight 4+ with Alex Nicoll, Jon Massari, Joe Blake, Hugh Woodworth and cox Ryan Cunningham

The Norwalk River girls took silver in the Women's Varsity 8+ with Alexandra Stonehill, Caroline Demko, Julia Barr, Maggie Walsh, Kylie O'Connor, Allison Hoffmann, Emma Vergara, Amanda Jenkins and cox Caroline Arnold.

The girls also took silver in the Women's Varsity 4+ with a crew that included Kyle O'Connor, Emma Vergara, Allison Hoffmann, Madeleine Apuzzo and cox Caroline Arnold. The Lightweight 4+ took bronze with Nicole Vacas, Amber Baker, Danielle Mahoney, Lexi Feliciano and cox Callie McCool.

Norwalk River Rowing includes athletes from Stamford, Norwalk, Wilton, Ridgefield, Westport, Pound Ridge and Darien.
