WESTPORT, Conn. The Greens Farms Academy girls volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to stun King, 3-2, on homecoming day Saturday. The game scores were 17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23 and 15-8.
Greens Farms (8-4) played excellent team defense against King (11-3), one of the top teams in the Fairchester Athletic Assocition. GFAs frontline blockers dominated the net, led by setter Sarah MacDonell with eight blocks. Laura Reul and Claire Comey combined for 10 blocks.
The Dragons back-row defense also solidified and found its stride, picking up whatever wasnt blocked. The team had a season high 33 digs, led by Rachel Schwimmer with 15, Lucy Hoffman with five, and 13 more clutch digs by the team.
The team serving also improved in the second half. Schwimmer, a junior from Westport, served out both games four and five.
The Dragons meet Fairchester leader Greenwich Academy on Monday.
