Greens Farms Boys Nip King in OT

With cameras and crew from MSG Varsity on hand, Sean Obi scored 32 points and grabbed 22 rebounds to lead Greens Farms Academy to a 74-70 overtime victory over King on Monday in a Fairchester Athletic Association boys basketball game.

Dan Chase added 27 points for GFA (13-5 overall, 7-5 FAA). Tre Tipton scored 25 points to lead King (12-8, 2-7).

The Dragons led by six with less than 40 seconds to play before Tipton hit two NBA-range three-pointers to force overtime.

Dan Chase, Will Pavlis and Hunter Eggers combined to go seven-for-eight from the free throw line during overtime. Chase scored eight in the extra session.

Obi's defensive intimidation in the lane was the heart of the Dragon's defense. Obi's teammates herded their opponents into Obi's lair. He did not let them down, altering, blocking or spooking everything that came his way.

Part of game's drama was centered on GFA starting point guard CJ Smith. CJ had turned an ankle last week and was trying to compete on that bad wheel against King. It did not work out. Coach Doug Scott had the depth to replace him. Eric Walsh, and Kam Mickens took turns running the show. Hunter Eggers switched from shooting guard into the point guard spot in the dramatic late going.

Christian Papic was a defensive hero. He came off of the bench to take on the assignment of slowing King's superstar Tipton. He was relentless and the key to GFA's final two game winning rallies.

Starter Wills Rooney, tri-captain Chris Morency, and Brien Comey all put in high energy minutes and contributed to the win.

If GFA can win its final two FAA games this week against Masters and St. Luke's, the Dragons will secure the highest FAA tourney seeding in the school's history.
