FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Longtime Fairfield County football coach Jerry McDougall, who was best known for his football and baseball teams at Trumbull High School, died Tuesday. McDougall also was the head coach at the former Central Catholic High School in Norwalk and was an assistant at St. Lukes.
According to the FCIAC.net website, McDougall was 75. Other reports listed McDougall as 76 or 77.
McDougall coached football for 31 years at Trumbull, where he won four state titles and five Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championships. He compiled a 265-126-8 record on the gridiron, and was the National High School Football Coach of the Year in 1995.
He had similar success in baseball, which he coached for 30 years at Trumbull and won 442 games, two state titles and 10 FCIAC titles.
McDougall became the head coach at Central Catholic in 1961 before heading to Trumbull in 1967. He joined the St. Lukes coaching staff in 2009.
He was also inducted in the J. Walter Kennedy Community Service Wing of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
McDougall is survived by two children: son Jerry Jr. and daughter Lauren. More information is available on the FCIAC website.
