The MMRF is fielding a team of  125 runners for the race in November and is giving Fairfield County runners the first chance for the slots.

The foundation is a Norwalk-based cancer charity that is a Silver Level partner of the New York City Marathon and is able to offer team members special amenities, including a team coach bus to the starting line at Fort Wadsworth, a team tent at the start, a 16-week training plan, a technical jersey and more.

The New York Road Runners awarded slots to runners last week through its lottery. This year was especially hard to get into the via lottery since about half of last year's marathoners (who did not run due to Superstorm Sandy) were guaranteed spots in this year's race.

Interested runners can learn more and sign up at :  www.themmrf.org/nycmarathon. Team members agree to raise a minimum of $3,000 in exchange for the guaranteed entry.

The foundation is a highly regarded non-profit that is accelerating treatments for multiple myeloma and other cancers. The foundation is in the top 1 percent of all charities evaluated by "watchdogs" such as Charity Navigator.
