Multiple Fireplaces Will Keep You Toasty

I took a ride over to Greenwich the other day to see what was going on in the mansion building business and came across a very attractive house just off the Merritt Parkway at the North Street exit. It’s a big house, not over-the-top big, but you’re still getting 10,500 square feet of real estate. I loved the symmetrical façade with its blend of stone and clapboard. And it’s brand new!

As you’d expect if you were buying a multi-million dollar home, this one comes with just about everything, including a music room, though you could use it for something else if you aren’t the musical sort. Pyromaniacs will have a field day here – there are seven fireplaces including two in the lower level family room.  They all looked as if they were hooked up to the gas, which also powers the heating and hot water systems. The kitchen has eight feet of Sub Zero freezer and refrigerator along one wall, nicely built in with paneling to match the kitchen, which is off white and well designed.

My favorite room was the library, which is totally paneled, including the coffered ceiling. The detailed trim throughout the house is an indication of the care the builders took in the construction. If you go to visit this lovely house, make sure to notice the colonnaded hallway on the second floor.  Builders don’t normally bother to put this much effort into making the upper floors look nice.

If I were to buy this house the one thing I’d change is the master bedroom. It just isn’t cozy enough. It runs the entire depth of the house, has a nice fireplace, but it’s too cavernous for a bedroom. I’d add a couple of half walls and headers and some columns to create a separate sitting area. Oh, and don’t bother sorting through your wardrobe.  Everything you own will fit in the walk-in closet and I can’t imagine there won’t be room to spare.

6 Loch Lane is being offered at $5,995,000.
