Greenwich Mom Keeps Track of Real Estate Market

Theresa Hatton has lived in Greenwich less than a year but she already has a pretty good handle on the ins and outs of her town. That’s hardly surprising since she works with just about every real estate agent in Greenwich.

Theresa is the executive vice-president of the Greenwich Association of Realtors. “We are a trade organization for the Greenwich real estate business,” explains Theresa. “We provide educational and marketing services to our subscribers.” Theresa works with the nine members of the board of directors and oversees the committees that work on any issues relating to the real estate industry, such as legislation, advocacy and, most recently, the mortgage deduction rulings.

“Our office also runs the Greenwich Multiple Listing Service (MLS). We post all the new house listings that come to market. It’s our responsibility to check everything for accuracy,” says Theresa. This means making sure all the paperwork and signatures are in order, as well as checking tax information. Whenever there is a change to the listing, such as a price adjustment or a sale, Theresa and her staff input the data into the MLS so that all the agents have access to up-to-date information.

Theresa grew up across the Sound on Long Island. After college she worked her way south in various marketing and public relations jobs, eventually ending up in Tennessee where she was executive vice president of the Williamson County Board of Realtors. “I was there for 4 years. It was a good fit for me,” says Theresa.

Theresa and her 4-year-old daughter Emma are thrilled to be living in Greenwich. “People have been so welcoming,” she says. “I’ve met people who have just moved here, like me, and people whose families have lived here for generations. The town has so much to offer. And Emma just loves going to the YWCA after school.”
