Fairfield Manor Exudes Charm and Luxury

There’s a house on the market in Fairfield that has elegant country estate written all over it. This  Nantucket Shingle Style home sits on 12 acres of wooded trails and rolling lawns in the tony Greenfield Hill area. The house, which is almost seven thousand square feet, exudes charm and elegance. As you might expect, the architectural moldings are magnificent and the flooring on the main floor is simply gorgeous. There's a two-story barn on the property, equipped with electricity and cable, which would make a perfect office, and you could probably turn the two-and-a half bays into a stable.

The foyer sets the tone for this magnificent home with its oversized mahogany front door and the antique limestone flooring, reclaimed and imported from Europe. Follow the wide hallway and peek through arched doorways into the elegant living and dining rooms. Notice the gleaming chestnut floors made from reclaimed New England barn boards. The kitchen has all the usual things you'd expect -- top appliances, beautiful cabinetry, granite counter. And there are a couple of nice extras. Check out the butler’s pantry with its glass-fronted cabinets. You'll also find a home office set-up, perfect for mail-sorting and calendar-coordinating. Instead of the usual breakfast nook, there's a built-in table for six under an arched ceiling. Quite lovely.

The master suite is features unconventional cathedral ceilings and a cupola. It also has a fireplace, spa-like bathroom and a private terrace through a pair of French doors. The other four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, are upstairs where you'll also find a sitting room with built-in bookcases. There's also a separate entertainment wing, complete with playroom, billiards room and a gym.

Asking price for 499 Queens Grant Road in Fairfield is $6.75 million.
