Chase Ortiz, 19, of Norwalk, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Norwalk Hospital as a result of the crash, Connecticut State Police said Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Ortiz was a passenger in a Volkswagen Passat that crashed into a tree around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 in Darien, state police said.

The driver of the Passat, a 19-year-old Norwalk woman, “veered off the road to the right for an unknown reason,” after taking the Exit 10 off-ramp from I-95, state police added.

Passenger Emanuel Deleon, 19, of Norwalk, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car and a third passenger also suffered critical injuries.

Ortiz's sister, Kaire Ortiz, said on a GoFundMe page set up to help cover funeral expenses, that "Chase was such a light in this world and touched so many. "

She also posted on Facebook that she couldn't' believe her little brother was gone: "I can’t even believe I have to make this post. My heart is hurting so much I lost my best friend and little brother tonight. I was supposed to go before you little bro it wasn’t supposed to happen this way."

The crash is still under investigation, state police said on Wednesday.
