Police responded to Joel's Barber Lounge on Cedar Street on Friday morning on a report of an overnight burglary, and when they arrived they found the door ajar, police told the Hour. When they checked inside for suspects, they found evidence of drug activity, according to the Hour. The officers exited and were able to obtain a search warrant for the barbershop, the Hour reported.
Police went back in and searched the barbershop, where they found a half-ounce of marijuana, marijuana edibles, as well as paraphernalia including a digital scale, rolling papers and materials to create hash oil, according to the Hour. When they spoke to the owner, 37-year-old Joel Figueroa, he said that the items were for his consumption and not for sale, according to the Hour.
Police arrested Figueroa on a number of drug charges, including operating a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell, the Hour reported. He was held on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court on Nov. 24.
