Marcos Romero, of Yale Avenue, was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. in a parking lot off Washington Street. Officers patrolling the lot discovered that the SUV had been reported stolen, and saw Romero place stereo equipment in the back of the car and go into the SoNo Lounge on Washington Street.

When he came out and tried to drive off, police stopped him. Officers found a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun in the waistband of his pants, but Romero had a valid permit to carry a gun. However, a check of the gun led to the discovery that it was registered by someone else. Police confiscated it until Romero provides written information that the gun was his, which he told them he could do.

Asked about the car, Romero said he had borrowed the car from the friend of a friend, but he could not name him.

The car is worth $14,600, so Romero was charged with second-degree larceny, a felony. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on June 25.
