No Thanksgiving dinner is complete without a pie. But if you don't have time to make one yourself, Westport resident Lauren Soloff and the Conservative Synagogue can help fulfill your needs through the Share the Pie program.
During the annual fundraiser, you can buy an apple, pecan or pumpkin pie that will not only taste good but also make you feel good.
"Share the Pie is a big holiday event we do with Homes with Hope," said Soloff, one of the Social Action/Tikkun Olam chairs at the synagogue. "Proceeds from the event go directly to benefit Homes with Hope," a nonprofit organization in Westport dedicated to battling homelessness.
Soloff said the synagogue has done Share the Pie annually for many years. Although the program is great for people who need pies to complete their Thanksgiving meals, Soloff said it's a great way for companies to say "thank you" to their workers.
"Most of our orders come from individual people, but we do get some large order from corporations that buy pies for their employees, clients and customers," she said, adding that corporate orders of 10 or more pies can be delivered, upon request, to the company office.
Even if you don't need or want a pie, Share the Pie is a great way to help others, Soloff said.
"People can order pies for themselves, but they can also buy a pie for donation," she said. "We bring those pies to places like the senior center, the Gillespie Center or other Homes with Hope venues that will use them as part of their community Thanksgiving meal. We've had a lot of these, and straight donation orders."
Pies are $20 each. All orders must be placed online or by phone at 203-454-4673 by the end of day Wednesday. Pies can be picked up Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the Conservative synagogue parking lot from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
