SoNo Stroll Adds Up for Norwalk Nonprofit

Robert Vanderslice and his co-workers found a good place to hang out Wednesday evening — but that was only the beginning. After sipping cocktails at the Black Bear, they headed out for a three-course meal at a nearby restaurant – all to help the Human Services Council.

Tickets for the third annual SoNo Stroll were $125 and included the cocktail reception, which featured a silent auction, as well as dinner at a SoNo restaurant: Barcelona Wine Bar, the Black Bear, Brew House, Burger Bar and Bistro, Chocopologie Café, Coromandel Indian Bistro, Donovan's, The Ginger Man, Jeff's Cuisine, Red Lulu, Match, O'Neill's Irish Pub, Pasta Nostra, Strada 18 and Wasabi Chi.

"It's a great event," said Vanderslice, who was attending for the first time. "It's good that it's well attended."

Last year's stroll earned more than $75,000 for the agency, according to Al Mirin, president of the board of directors. Jackie Effron said 215 tickets were sold last year, and this year about 250 were purchased. "It's growing every year," she said.

Funds raised will support council programs, including the Children's Connection, Dr. Robert E. Appleby School Based Health Centers, Mid-Fairfield Substance Abuse Coalition, Norwalk Mentor Program and the Voluntary Action Center of Mid-Fairfield.
