Norwalk Man Allegedly Swung 'Machete' at Landlord

A Norwalk man fighting to keep from being evicted allegedly swung "a machete-like object" Thursday at his landlord, who lives downstairs. Thomas Banks, 30, of 61 Meadow St., was arrested and charged with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree reckless endangerment. Bond was set at $2,500.

Norwalk police say they found two samurai swords in Banks' living area after they responded to a 2:48 p.m. report of a man with a machete threatening his downstairs neighbor. Banks and his landlord had been in Norwalk Superior Court that day about the eviction. Banks had won that round.

The complainant, a 25-year old woman, said after the two returned home, an argument began between her husband, 26, and Banks' 49-year-old mother, according to police. They separated, and when the mother was at the top of the stairs, Banks swung a machete-like object at them in a threatening manner and then shut the door.

Banks is reported to have said his landlord was upset about losing in court and said the husband had gotten in his mother's face. He denied swinging a knife.

Police also found Remington Target shells in the apartment.

Also on the police blotter:

• Tobin Terrell, 28, of Bridgeport, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance or less than 4 ounces of marijuana; illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, prescription drugs; illegal possession near a school; and sale, possession within distance of a school. Bond was set at $5,000.

Police say two members of the Special Services Division were patrolling on Lexington Avenue and saw two men make an exchange. They knew the men from previous drug arrests. They questioned Terrell, who was sweating and shaking. Asked why he smelled of burnt marijuana, he said he had smoked a blunt earlier.

Police say he had a large bulge in his pocket and the tip of a plastic bag was sticking out. The substance inside tested positive for marijuana. He also had $737 in cash on him.
