Metro-North, Amtrak Delayed After Derailment

Metro-North trains on the New Haven Line were experiencing delays of 15 to 20 minutes east of Fairfield at about noon Saturday because of a freight train derailment near Bridgeport.

Amtrak trains were also delayed although service was returning to normal midday Saturday. A freight train derailed overnight on Metro-North tracks, blocking four tracks for about eight hours, the New Times reported. Passengers were transported on buses between Fairfield and Bridgeport during the closure, The Hartford Courant reported.

Service was resumed between Bridgeport and Fairfield at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Earlier, Metro-North service had been suspended between Stamford and New Haven as well as Amtrak service between New York and Boston.
