BRIDGEPORT, Conn. Tanya McDowell, 33, who is held on numerous drug charges in Norwalk and who generated national sympathy when she was arrested for enrolling her son in a Norwalk school he wasn't eligible to attend, has been arrested on the two Bridgeport warrants that Norwalk Police Chief Harry Rilling said were coming.
According to the Connecticut Post, McDowell was alone in Bridgeport Superior Court when the narcotics charges were brought. Not even her lawyer, Darnell Crosland, was present. She is held on $210,000 bond.
The Post says McDowell is alleged to have sold cocaine and marijuana outside a home on Dover Street in Bridgeport on two separate occasions. Norwalk police sources say McDowell sold drugs during her now-6-year-old son's birthday party.
McDowell, who was convicted of a bank robbery 10 years ago, was arrested in Norwalk in November on drug charges. In February, she was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree breach of peace after allegedly threatening her babysitter, Ana Marques.
McDowell used Marques' address to enroll her 5-year-old son at Brookside Elementary School in Norwalk. She removed him in January and says she was asked to do so by a school representative. Norwalk schools have issued a statement implying that isn't true. In April, she was charged with larceny for misrepresenting her address to enroll her son. The larceny charge represents the cost of educating her child for a year, estimated to be $15,686.
She was arrested in June 10 on drug dealing charges in Norwalk after allegedly selling crack cocaine and marijuana to an undercover police officer near Columbus Magnet School.
