Gilbert Jackson, Professor, Outdoorsman

Gilbert Arthur Jackson of Weston died Nov. 21 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 81. Jackson served in the U.S. Army with the 9th Mountain and Cold Weather Training Command. He later became an associate professor of psychology at Norwalk Community College, where he taught for more than 20 years. He also worked for Norwalk Public Schools and was active in teacher labor unions.

He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, the National Speleological Society and the Connecticut Sports Car Club. In his spare time, Jackson enjoyed traveling, skiing, caving, chess, sports cars, firearms and a variety of outdoor recreation.

Jackson is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Stone Jackson; two sons, Gary and Randy; granddaughter, Ashley; siblings Ruth Grech, Linda Schultz and Larry Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held last week. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
