Frances Ross Miltimore, a former New Canaan teacher and parishioner of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Wilton, died Oct. 9 in Carmel, Calif. Miltimore was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Essex and died several months shy of her 91st birthday.
She worked for 21 years in the New Canaan school district as a teacher and reading specialist before retiring in 1981. While living in Connecticut she also volunteered with the Head Start Program in Norwalk.
Miltimore received a B.A. from Vassar College in 1942, and went back to school to receive a B.S. degree from Danbury States Teachers College in 1961. Danbury States Teachers College was renamed Western Connecticut State University in 1983.
Miltimore is survived by two children, Sidney Ross-Risden and John Ross, and a granddaughter, Megan Risden. She was predeceased by two husbands, John Ross (1978) and Louis Miltimore (1996).
