Crowds Head to Stamford Mall for Newest iPhone

STAMFORD, Conn. – More than 70 people waited in line at the Stamford Town Center's Apple Store to get the iPhone 4S, which went on sale Friday morning.

The overflow of people caused the store to start its lines outside — one for people waiting to get the device Apple’s website called, “the most amazing iPhone yet,” and a second for people with other Apple needs.

John Piazza was trying to get a phone for himself and one for his wife, too. He said he was looking to upgrade from the iPhone 3; his wife’s phone’s screen had been smashed.

“I wanted to make sure I spoke to the right people,” Piazza said of the sales representatives and as to why he waited in line instead of ordering the phones online.

Ann Burleigh had more trust in Apple’s product and had already ordered the new phone, which she said would be waiting for her at home. However, she still decided to head down to the town center and wait in line to pick one up for her son.

“I thought they’d been sold out,” Burleigh said of the iPhone 4S.

The Verizon and AT&T stores in the mall also began selling the iPhone 4S on Friday, said Jim Zielinski, head of the marketing department.
